Title: From Healthspan to Soulspan: Longevity Intelligence and Stoic Agency for Human-Centred Healthy Aging
Biography
Raffaele Forgione is an Italian author, entrepreneur, manager, and longevity communicator. He is the founder of .dopo50, a community dedicated to helping adults over 50 pursue healthier, more active, and more conscious lives. His work translates longevity research into practical everyday choices and explores the cultural, psychological, and philosophical dimensions of aging. He is the author of “Longevity Intelligence: Come vivere a lungo (e bene) partendo da oggi” (“Longevity Intelligence: How to live a long (and good) life starting today) and Longevità Stoica (Stoic Longevity). Through books, articles, videos, and community initiatives, he promotes a view of longevity grounded in prevention, sustainable habits, purpose, relationships, autonomy, and personal responsibility without blame.
Abstract
Most longevity frameworks explain what may extend healthspan, yet knowledge alone rarely produces sustained behavior change. This presentation introduces a human-centred framework that integrates Longevity Intelligence—a practical capacity to make present choices for future health—with Stoic philosophy as a system of agency, self-regulation, and meaning. The objective is to connect evidence-informed healthy-aging behaviors with an ethical and psychological architecture that makes them more actionable across the life course. The method is an integrative conceptual synthesis of the author’s two books, Longevity Intelligence and Longevità Stoica (Stoic Longevity). Their recurring constructs were mapped across five behavioral domains—nutrition, movement, sleep, stress recovery, and relationships/purpose—and four Stoic capabilities: distinguishing control from non-control, directing attention, practicing temperance, and reviewing action. The synthesis yields a three-layer model of longevity: biological capacity, behavioral consistency, and biographical quality. It also proposes soulspan as a complementary outcome: the years lived with presence, purpose, dignity, curiosity, and contribution. A practical protocol translates the model into five repeatable tools: future-self visualization; one minimum viable health habit; a daily control-and-influence check; an evening reflective review; and parallel tracking of biological indicators (such as strength, sleep, and clinical measures) and biographical indicators (such as autonomy, relationships, emotional recovery, and usefulness). This is a conceptual and educational framework, not a validated clinical instrument; its value lies in generating testable hypotheses and accessible behavior-change applications. The framework reframes aging from passive decline or endless self-optimization into a trainable competence: caring for the future body while cultivating the character required to inhabit a longer life well.
